ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance scores)

What is ESG?

The ESG score shows how an organization is managing risks and opportunities related to environmental, social, and governance criteria.

Environmental, Social and Governance scores are researched and given to companies showing their involvement and impact in various sphere’s of our lives whether connected to the work or social environment.

To expand on this :

  • The Environment category covers the companies involvement and contribution to our natural environment. It includes policies on ethical use of natural resources as well as limiting pollution and abuse of flora and fauna
  • The Social category covers relationships and treatment of intra and inter company persons or entities. Good practices with regard supporting their communities, donations and upliftment of NPO’s and their employees
  • The Governance category covers good practices, policies and procedures within the company. This ranges from an independent board to company culture

Using ESG in Plan

Note: You need to have ESG access enabled as part of your plan subscription to be able to see the ESG scores in Plan.

On the 'Media' tab you can show the ESG score associated with your selected media vehicles by selectiong the 3 dots menu icon a the top of the Plan table.

You can then select the ESG scores, including the 'Overall ESG Score' you would like to see as table data in your media selected summary. Note: Some categories might be locked as this requires an additional subscription as part of your Plan package and you would need to speak to your account manager should you want to active these options.

Once you have selected the ESG scores you want to see they will appear as new columns in your media table.  You can select the column header to sort ascending or descending to sort your media by their ESG category score within their media categories.  Please note at this stage you will only see the ESG score.

What is the ESG score?

ESG scores are calculated by analyzing a range of data points related to a company's environmental impact, social responsibility, and corporate governance practices.

A score of 50+ = Good and 60+ = Very Good.

When you go to the 'Plan' tab you can also see the ESG scores by selecting the 3 dots menu in the table and choosing 'add/remove columns' option.

There is a separate tab at the top of the 'Add/remove' columns popup called 'ESG Score'.  In this tab you can again select the columns you are interested in for the planning phase of creating you media plan/s.  Please not the columns selected for ESG will be visible across all the plans you have created in this campaign.

Once you have chosen some ESG Scores to view, these will be added as new columns in your Plan view. You can use the black 'ESG Score' control at the top of the table to open and shut the ESG columns and respectively show and hide them from your planning view.

You can also click on the arrow in the 'Total' row of the ESG column to sort the scores by ascending or descending within each media category.

Now you will notice each media vehicle is given an ESG score and an associated colour scale.

What is the ESG Colour Scale?

The color scale related to the score shows the stability of the score. The stability of the score is based on the media which have ESG values used in your campaign; and to what level you use them, such as how many of your media items have scores identified and how many GRP's you have planned for them. For example, if you use a media vehicle with no score and have very high GRP usage of it, you would expect a colour which is very unstable, regardless of a good or bad score itself.

Note: Some media vehicles might not have an ESG score defined/available, this is because the score has low stability.
